Moxibustion and Tui Na ("twee-naw") are included in the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and have been used for thousands of years.  They are an integral part of the treatment protocol, and may be used to supplement the acupuncture/acupressure treatment, or they may be used by themselves.  Each of these may also be used to treat children.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which a Chinese herb called moxa is burned on or above the body, or on the end of a needle, to treat and prevent illness.  Moxa is mainly comprised of Ai Ye (Artemisia Argyi), and it can be applied in different forms:  stick, cone, needle-warming, and direct application.  It can be used with other materials, such as ginger, salt, or garlic, to enhance a particular function of the moxa, or it can be used by itself.  Due to its unique properties, moxa is able to penetrate deep inside the body, where it can dispel cold, warm the meridians, alleviate pain (especially menstrual cramps), move Qi and blood, and treat toxicity.
Moxibustion should only be performed by trained practitioners, as its misuse can lead to burns and scarring.

Tui Na

Tui Na is Chinese therapeutic massage.  It involves a wide range of techniques, which are applied based on the condition and area that is being treated.  Tui Na can alleviate sore and tight muscles, joint pain, back and neck pain, and it can move Qi and blood.  When used along the meridians on the back, it can directly tonify the internal organs.  For this reason, Tui Na is a safe and effective treatment for infants and children, as an alternative to acupuncture.
